Happy Halloween

Photobucket

To all my family and friends...I hope you have a safe but Happy Halloween!

Five Little Pumpkin Sitting On A Gate

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,
The first one said,
"Oh my, it's getting late."
The second one said,
"But we don't care."
The third one said,
"I see witches in the air."
The fourth one said,
"Let's run, and run, and run."
The fifth one said,
"Get ready for some fun."
Then whoosh went the wind,
and out went the lights,
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Haunted House
- by Jack Prelutsky

There's a house upon the hilltop
We will not go inside
For that is where the witches live,
Where ghosts and goblins hide.

Tonight they have their party,
All the lights are burning bright,
But oh we will not go inside
The haunted house tonight.

The demons there are whirling
And the spirits swirl about.
They sing their songs to Halloween.
"Come join the fun," they shout.

But we do not want to go there
So we run with all our might
And oh we will not go inside
The haunted house tonight.

Halloween Questions!

Feel free to copy. I did...from Gina at "Gina's Public Diary".

1. What is the worst treat to get when trick-or-treating? I don't like those peanut butter taffy candies wrapped in orange or black paper.

2. What character from any horror film would you most like to play? Kathy Bates from "Misery"

3. Would you rather be a zombie, alien, or psycho? I am already a psycho LOL so I pick a Zombie.

4. How many Halloween, Friday the 13th, or Nightmare on Elm Street movies combined do you have on dvd?
I am not sure, I have never counted them.

5. What is the scariest movie you have ever seen? When I was a kid it was "Friday the 13th". As an adult I think "Darkness Falls" was the scariest.

7. Favorite Halloween treat? Chocolate

8. Friendly-faced jack o’lantern or scary one? Both! Depends on my mood.

9. Have you ever had nightmares about a scary movie character chasing you? Yes, and as an adult (38 years old) I still have bad dreams and I prefer to have a light on in the house at night.

10. Best thing about Halloween? All the wonderful candy!

11. Strangest Halloween custom you’ve heard of? None that I can think of.

12. Person in your family who most likes Halloween (not counting yourself)? My sister-in-law.

13. Are you superstitious? Yes, in some ways I am. I don't walk under ladders and I get chills when a black cat crosses my path. I don't step on cracks and I throw salt over my shoulder now and then.

13. What fearful shapes and shadows beset his path, amidst the dim and ghastly glare of a snowy night! With what wistful look did he eye every trembling ray of light streaming across the waste fields from some distant window! How often was he appalled by some shrub covered with snow, which, like a sheeted specter, beset his very path! How often did he shrink with curdling awe at the sound of his own steps on the frosty crust beneath his feet; and dread to look over his shoulder, lest he should behold some uncouth being tramping close behind him! and how often was he thrown into complete dismay by some rushing blast, howling among the trees, in the idea that it was the Galloping Hessian on one of his nightly scouring!
- Washington Irving (a quote from "The Legend of Sleep Hollow")

2. What's your favorite part of the Halloween season? Why?

Thursday Threesome: Daylight Savings Time

____________________________________________________

Onesome: Daylight-- Savings Time is up here in the US this weekend. Ready? Set? Go? ...or will you just wake up and worry about it sometime Sunday? I will just wake up and worry about it on Sunday. Or maybe even set my clocks before going to bed...but I doubt it.

Twosome: Savings--? Hey, do you use coupons when you shop? ...and do you go looking for them online?
I don't really like to use coupons any more. Coupons are such as hassle and it seems like the cashier always screws up when I use them.

Threesome: Time-- to batten down the hatches where you are? They've had snow in Ohio and Ottawa; and we may not hit the 80's this weekend in CaliLand: is Winter approaching for you?
I have not prepared for winter yet. It has been a little cooler here in Missouri but nothing too horrible. I have not even used my heat yet but I probably should have for a few days.

Wednesday Weirdness: October 28, 2008

Wednesday Weirdness #27
Hosted at http://wednesdayweird.blogspot.com/
Questions by: Bella Dreamer
___________________________________________________________________

1.) As an adult, do you do anything for Halloween or is it jut another day?
Now that my children are older, Halloween is just another day to me. It was fun when they were little but now there I have no reason to decorate the house or dress up.

2.) Do you ever dress up for Halloween? What will be your costume this year?
I use to dress up for Halloween but I have not done it in many years. No costume this year.

3.) Have you started Christmas shopping yet? When do you usually begin?
I have not even thought about starting my Christmas shopping yet. I usually wait until the pay day before Christmas to go out and get everyone's gifts.

4.) Do you look people in the eye when talking? Does it bother you when people don't make eye contact during conversation? I look people in the eye when I am talking. It took me many years to get to the point that I could do that because I have trust issues. I still have to talk myself into doing it at times. Yes, it bothers me when people don't make eye contact during conversation...I feel as if they are lying to me if they can't look at me. But I also have found out that the best liar in the world can look me in the eye.

5.) What excuse do you usually use when you want to take a day off work for no real reason?
If things are slow at work I tell the boss that it is slow and I am headed home. I don't take off work unless I have to because I want to have time saved for emergencies.

6.) How often, on average, do you find yourself thinking about sex per day?
Many times throughout the day I think about sex...maybe 5 or more times a day. Is that bad?

7.) What company makes your favorite brand of shoes? What makes them your favorite?
Dr. Scholls or Earth Shoes are my favorite because they are very comfortable. They also last a long time and don't make my feet sweat.

8.) Do you ever save alcohol bottles once they are empty? Not anymore, they just gather dust.

9.) Do you enjoy musicals? Sometimes but not very often. It depends on my mood and who I am with at the time.

Heads or Tails: Scary Story

Heads or Tails
Hosted by Barb (Skittles)
http://headsortailshome.blogspot.com/

Today's Topic is: TAILS - Tell a scary story (Real or otherwise)
_____________________________________________________________________________

I hear something similar to this when I was a kid!

Bloody Mary
She lived deep in the forest in a tiny cottage and sold herbal remedies for a living. Folks living in the town nearby called her Bloody Mary, and said she was a witch. None dared cross the old crone for fear that their cows would go dry, their food-stores rot away before winter, their children take sick of fever, or any number of terrible things that an angry witch could do to her neighbors.

Then the little girls in the village began to disappear, one by one. No one could find out where they had gone. Grief-stricken families searched the woods, the local buildings, and all the houses and barns, but there was no sign of the missing girls. A few brave souls even went to Bloody Mary's home in the woods to see if the witch had taken the girls, but she denied any knowledge of the disappearances. Still, it was noted that her haggard appearance had changed. She looked younger, more attractive. The neighbors were suspicious, but they could find no proof that the witch had taken their young ones.
Then came the night when the daughter of the miller rose from her bed and walked outside, following an enchanted sound no one else could hear. The miller's wife had a toothache and was sitting up in the kitchen treating the tooth with an herbal remedy when her daughter left the house. She screamed for her husband and followed the girl out of the door. The miller came running in his nightshirt. Together, they tried to restrain the girl, but she kept breaking away from them and heading out of town.

The desperate cries of the miller and his wife woke the neighbors. They came to assist the frantic couple. Suddenly, a sharp-eyed farmer gave a shout and pointed towards a strange light at the edge of the woods. A few townsmen followed him out into the field and saw Bloody Mary standing beside a large oak tree, holding a magic wand that was pointed towards the miller's house. She was glowing with an unearthly light as she set her evil spell upon the miller's daughter.

The townsmen grabbed their guns and their pitchforks and ran toward the witch. When she heard the commotion, Bloody Mary broke off her spell and fled back into the woods. The far-sighted farmer had loaded his gun with silver bullets in case the witch ever came after his daughter. Now he took aim and shot at her. The bullet hit Bloody Mary in the hip and she fell to the ground. The angry townsmen leapt upon her and carried her back into the field, where they built a huge bonfire and burned her at the stake.

As she burned, Bloody Mary screamed a curse at the villagers. If anyone mentioned her name aloud before a mirror, she would send her spirit to revenge herself upon them for her terrible death. When she was dead, the villagers went to the house in the wood and found the unmarked graves of the little girls the evil witch had murdered. She had used their blood to make her young again.

From that day to this, anyone foolish enough to chant Bloody Mary's name three times before a darkened mirror will summon the vengeful spirit of the witch. It is said that she will tear their bodies to pieces and rip their souls from their mutilated bodies. The souls of these unfortunate ones will burn in torment as Bloody Mary once was burned, and they will be trapped forever in the mirror.

We're doing something a bit different today for the Mambo. I am assuming you all have access to a radio.

Turn on your radio and dial in to your favorite station. What is the first (recognizable) song that you hear? What do you think about that song? If you could request a song right now, which would you request?

I tuned into the local radio station 98.9 The Fort. The weather report was on LOL so I had to wait for the music to start. The first song to play was one I did not recognize. Towards the middle of the song I realized it was "Roll On Tonight" by Kid Rock. It is an ok song...not really one of my favorites by him.

If I could request a song right now I would request "Temperature" by Sean Paul. I need something to get me motivated here at work and something to warm me up! LOL My office is cold.

IMPORTANT: Posting Comments

A sweet, kind blogging friend of mine (Bud) brought it to my attention that the comments section of my blog is not working very well. It seems blogger implemented something new and it seems to only work some of the time. So, I changed my settings so that the comment section is now a pop-up window. Please let me know if this works or not :)

Hugs!

3x Thursday: Motivation

3x Thursday: 10/23/y2k+8: Motivate!
Hosted by The Hair Metal Queen

1. What motivates you? Why? My children and my brother. Because without them I really have no purpose in life. Well, I have work and my dogs so that gives me purpose also but the three that I love the most give me a reason for living.

2. What happens when you can't be motivated to do something you need to do? How do you get the motivation back? I take a break, walk away from the situation and relax for awhile.

3. Are there any changes in the state of your world that need some motivation to do? What they are is optional, but how will you motivate yourself to do it? None that I can think of.

Thursday Threesome: Technology Marches On

Thursday Threesome: Just checking in

Onesome: Just-- the Cell Phone? ...and no land line? How does it pencil out for you: do you need to have both a cell phone and a home phone in your life? How about down the road? Do you see yourself disconnecting from the hard-wired connection?
Currently I only have a cell phone. I shut off our land line at home awhile back because it was an unneeded expense. I might reconnect it in the future but I doubt it. I prefer to use my cell phone.

Twosome: Checking-- accounts, a thing of the past or something that will be around for a while? I'm wondering how much we're coming around to debit cards and online payments...
I still have a checking account but I don't write many checks from it (maybe 3 or 4 a month at the most). I prefer to do online payments or pay with my debit or credit cards.

Threesome: In-- the same vein: how about the net itself? If you're on it for basic communications then what happens when your handheld device becomes your email/chat/and voice communication system? Do you bail from the hardwired home links when wifi becomes just a little more ubiquitous? ...and before you answer, check in with any teen you see walking down the street with their head in the Net!
I don't use my cell phone for email or for surfing the web. I use it to send text messages now and then and to make/take phone calls. I use my desktop and laptop for instant messaging, email, Ventrillo and other ways to communicate with the ones I care about.

Wednesday Weirdness- Happy Birthday Edition

Wednesday Weirdness #26
Hosted at http://wednesdayweird.blogspot.com/
Questions by: Another Suburban Mom
___________________________________________________________________

1. Is there a particular birthday that you are dreading (ex: 40th) why?
Now that I am getting older I dread every birthday. I really don't want to get old but such is life :)

2. What is your favorite birthday memory?
Birthdays during my teenage were nearly all good. Mom always made Chicken and Dumplings and Mississippi Mud Cake for me.

3. What was the best birthday present you ever received? The worst?
The best...a huge chocolate bouquet from Steve.
The worst...some cheap flowers from the gas station from my ex-husband.

4. Frosting roses: Love them or hate them? They are yummy!

5. Do you like when people make a big deal out of your birthday, or do you prefer a quiet or no celebration?
It seems that most people in my life don't even remember my birthday unless I remind them. I would like for my loved ones to remember my birthday on their own.

6. Surprise parties; Good or Evil? Very evil if it is for me...good if it is for someone else.

Wednesday Mind Hump: Do-It-Yourself (DIY)

RFDuck says..."Hello everyone! Today is Do-it-yourself Day. Tell us about your proudest "do it yourself" moment."

My response...I don't remember my exact age but I remember the first time I pumped gas all by myself. Dad taught me how to do it one time and the next time I did it by myself! I was so proud. After that, every time we stopped for gas I would beg dad to let me pump it while he went in and paid for it.

The Peace Globe project began in the fall of 2006 with a simple post from one blog, Mimi Writes. The post ignited a flame in the blogosphere. The flame became a passion. The passion became a movement. It amazingly traveled from blog to blog to blog across the globe. Bloggers wrote passionate articles on what peace means to them, along with the promise of three Latin words scribbled on a globe - Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace) - branded with the integrity of their names or blog names. It was positively inspiring to watch. And it began to happen all over the world - from Singapore to China to Afghanistan to Brooklyn.

It was simple. And powerful.

In less than three weeks bloggers from all across the globe will blog for peace.
We will speak with one voice. One subject. One day.
Won't you join us?
