TMI Tuesday #141: Marriage Edition

1. Do you believe in marriage? I believe in marriage but I think both parties involved need to believe in it and be committed to it.
2. What is marriage to you? Marriage to me is two people that are faithful to each other, as well as honest. They both believe in keeping the lines of communication open and not back stabbing the other. They have a relationship that is "worked on" during the good times and the bad times.
3. If you are married, why did you do it? If you are not, why have you not married? Steve and I have been together for 7 years...not married, but we live as if we are married. We might get married someday...only time will tell.
4. Do you believe in divorce? Yes, I believe in divorce. Why stay in a marriage that is bad for you? or bad for your kids? or even bad for the other person?
5. If you are divorced, why did you do it? If you have not, are there certain circumstances under which you would agree to a divorce? I have only been married one time. We married in October 1992 and he left in May 1994 for another woman. He always liked other woman more than me. His favorite pick up line was "I am not married but my wife is". He was very abusive (mentally, physically, emotionally) to the children and I. We finally divorced in June 2000...one of the best days of my life.
Bonus: Do you believe that same sex marriages are a threat to traditional marriages?
Hummm...this is a good question. I am not really sure how I feel about same sex marriage. My religious upbringing tells me it is a big no no. But my attempt at being open minded says who the hell cares.
