What are your favorite final sentences from books? Is there a book that you liked specially because of its last sentence? Or a book, perhaps that you didn’t like but still remember simply because of the last line?
One line that stands out is my mind is "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." That line was stated by Rhett Butler in the book "Gone With The Wind". However, it was not the last line of the book. The very last line is uttered by Scarlett O'Hara - "After all, tomorrow is another day."
Although I loved that book (and that movie) I hated the ending. I want an author who tells a story--beginning, middle, and end.

ReplyDeleteI read the book many times and love it but wasn't satisfied with the ending either. It seems to be the best known line thou. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, Rhett's line would really have made a better final sentence for the book. Wonder if maybe Margaret Mitchell was setting up a sequel with that "tomorrow is another day" line?
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh gotta love Miss Scarlett!!!
