Heads or Tails: Doctor (Personal)

PLEASE NOTE: This is not posted for sympathy!

This week I am writing about something personal.

Over the years I have been seeing a doctor for all my female problems. However, I have not been to the doctor since August 2007 because I simply cannot afford it and the little amount of insurance I have does not cover my issues.

In August 2007 I had surgery after years of bleeding, pain, stress, depression and etc. The doctor gave me the test results on August 10, 2007. He said I have endometrial hyperplasia (a little information about it below). He stated he would use medication to treat it and in November 2007 I was to go back for another biopsy...I have not been able to go back. At the time of those test the results were benign.

I also have fibroids and cysts on my ovaries...all of this is very painful and stressful. But I must continue on with day-to-day living.

You can read more about it on WebMD: www.webmd.com/cancer/understanding-endometrial-cancer-basics

"Various conditions both benign and cancerous (malignant) can affect the uterus, the hollow, pear-shaped organ where a baby grows. Fibroid tumors on the uterine wall are benign (not cancerous), and women who have them are not at increased risk for uterine cancer. Abnormal growth of cells in the uterus' lining -- called the endometrium -- is called endometrial hyperplasia. It is the most serious benign uterine condition, and in some women it evolves into uterine cancer."

  1. Hi, Shannon,
I'm so sorry you're going thru all of this. I know how stressful this can be. I'm sure you remember my many posts about Natasha always being so sick when I had the forum.
I've suspected for years that I have Endometriosis.........the pain is incredible at times! I swear I'd rather go thru labor!!! If you need an ear, you know where to find me!!

  2. My post today is dedicated to you, and to the tens of millions of Americans like you (including my siblings). I am saddened that you're one of the ones in this plight of being un-/under-insured who has a serious health concern.

  3. What can I say?
I am sorry that you have to face this difficulty everyday -- make that two -- your condition and the state of insurance.

    Something needs to be done.

  5. That must be so difficult to deal with. It makes me so mad that so many Americans don't have good insurance...we can barely afford ours and it takes about $300+ out of Cliff's little paycheck twice a month. You're in my thoughts sweetie.
